I just installed the HotU expansion and also have the latest patch installed as well. I have been on the bioware site searching the forums(still am at the moment), looking for what seems to be a crash to the desktop when entering a portal. Doorways are immune to this. I have one save with a char. in Port Llast and try to walk into the temple and then the game just crashes to the desktop. So far in the self-help section all I get is just what happened. No actual fixes. I was wondering if anyone else out there had the same problem and what you did to correct this matter. I would like to post something that could help in resolving this matter.

I have not personally had this problem, though I also have HotU and 1.66 update. By "portal" do you mean the kind that teleports you somewhere or the kind thats a "doorway" into a building that is part of the tileset itself (like the temple front doors)? If its the later, does the same thing happen when you try to enter the temple front doors in Mosstone? I have walked in and out of the Mosstone temple many times with no trouble. While I have not tried the one in Port Kir, I can't imagine it would be any different since it's the same tile from the same tileset as the temple in Mosstone...

No it seems to be from the OC in NWN. I am trying to resolve this issue before going onto the PW. But it seems to be when you are in port llast in the OC and you go to the temple and then enter it, but once it starts then you are kicked out to the desktop. So far I have sent an email the the NWN bug team (sound like men in black) and will wait for what they say and post it on here. I think this is something that is starting to happen since the recent release of the 1.66 patch. But from my understanding that it seems to happen only when playing in the OC of the game and then only in the OC and not the 2 expansions. At least from what saves that I have so far.

From what searching I have tried to start, I only found that this is a relativly a new problem. So far I have fired off an email to Bioware about the issue. I even looked in the self-help forum on Bioware, but to no avail. I don't want to break out my compiler and try to even look and explore in the game without messing is all up and having to start all my char. all over again. I think that since I could not find a copy of HotU at any stores without having to order it, I just went and bought the plat. edt. , but still have my gold edt. If I hear anything from Bioware I will cut and paste what they say might be the problem. I did find that one person just edited the lighting of the portal itself and that seem to fix the problem. No word if anyone else had tried that. I will keep everyone updated. (i wanted to see the PW and couldn't wait to get HotU in the mail. )

OK now I have another question. I have downloaded the tlk hak and so far haven't been able to find a good place in NWN files to put it. Each time I try to connect to the server for SS all I get is that I need the talk hak and it kicks me out. Now I read somewhere that if it doesn't work to just make a spot for it. I tried that and no luck. I also have installed it in a seperate folder in the hak file and even tried just placing the 2 files in with the rest of the tlk files and such in the hak file. I see that the Cep tlk file is in there, but having some issues on this. I need to find out what is going on and to see if I am really behind in computers again. LOL!

The ss.tlk file should go into your nwn/tlk folder - same place as the CEP tlk goes. If you can't find a tlk folder, create on in the main NWN directory and place the file inside. (It does not go anywhere in the hak folder.) Not sure if this is the info you needed or not.

Ok I will try that. Hopefully that will work. I may have to move some of the CEP tlk files as well. Thanks for the info.

Well at least I can say that the ss.tlk file is in the right place and I can get on the PW, but I am still having problems with the game. I ended up having to reinstall the whole game, and in the process ended up losing all of my characters(even BenAthar ) So now I am p@#$%& off and looking into the problem further, it seems to be a problem with video and sound drivers. There is also a problem with all the magic being cast in an area that causes the game to stop and lag. Meaning that it freezes and the sound loops. I have this problem while trying to start from the begining of the OC. I get ready to talk to Aribeth in the academy after graduation and once the mages teleport in the game freezes and the sound loops. So far there is no word as to what kind of support is happening in Bioware and Atari about a possible patch. So far in the self help forums there is some links to possible fixes. Here is the main forum page that I have been in looking around. nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewforum.html?forum=49

OK based on my experience I'm going to try and help you. Some or all of these you may have already done, but I'll list them anyway. 1. Run dxdiag from the run menu. Make sure all tests pass. 2. Turn every game/graphic/audio setting to it's lowest possible setting in NWN and see if you still have the same issue. 3. Run memtest www.memtest86.com/memt32.zip and make sure you don't have RAM problems. 4. Complete game uninstall and reinstall. One of those should find where the error is.

thanks Xaos, I haven't seen that fix yet on the boards, and it was getting frustrating. I plan on adding more ram to my computer, till my linux machine gets running. I will try that this weekend when I have more time and see how that works out.

I was looking at some of my reg settings, and found out that I still have some Gold edt. settings still in the registry. I was trying to fix some other issues w/ my rig. It seems to me that could be one of the reasons everyone is having all the problems with upgrading to the platinium from the gold. So far I haven't heard that kind of problem with the black boxed upgrade. I will post my sudden revelation and see what kind of reaction I get back. (is the server still running this weekend? I need to test after the reinstall)
